{"id":45,"date":"2013-07-26T02:18:28","date_gmt":"2013-07-26T02:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marcysantana.com\/marcyblog\/?p=45"},"modified":"2013-07-26T14:00:23","modified_gmt":"2013-07-26T14:00:23","slug":"being-vegan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcysantana.com\/marcyblog\/?p=45","title":{"rendered":"Being a Vegan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I became a vegan in 2003.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a vegetarian since 1998 because I want to save the lives of animals and because I think it is the best diet for our planet and for myself.\u00a0\u00a0 My husband Primo has been a vegan since he was 25 years old.<\/p>\n<p>We eat organic fruits, vegetables, seeds, and grains\u00a0 when ever we can buy them or grow them ourselves.\u00a0 I also stopped eating wheat, barley and rye.\u00a0 We have an apple tree, lemon tree, pineapple guava tree, blueberry bush, strawberries, tomatoes, parsley, and carrots growing in our backyard.<\/p>\n<p>It was a slow process for me to become a vegan.\u00a0 When I was pregnant with my daughter Jennifer in 1978 just looking at meat made me feel ill so I stopped eating red meat (beef, pork, lamb).\u00a0 I continued eating chicken, turkey and fish occasionally.\u00a0 When my son Brian became a vegan while he was in college at Humboldt State University I decided to stop eating all animals.\u00a0 He gave me a brochure on the benefits of being a vegan.\u00a0\u00a0 I always felt guilty about killing animals for my food.\u00a0\u00a0 Meat = Murder<\/p>\n<p>I suggest reading:<br \/>\n&#8220;World Peace Diet&#8221; by Will Tuttle, Ph.D<br \/>\n&#8220;The China Study&#8221; by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II.
