I became a vegan in 2003. I’ve been a vegetarian since 1998 because I want to save the lives of animals and because I think it is the best diet for our planet and for myself. My husband Primo has been a vegan since he was 25 years old.
We eat organic fruits, vegetables, seeds, and grains when ever we can buy them or grow them ourselves. I also stopped eating wheat, barley and rye. We have an apple tree, lemon tree, pineapple guava tree, blueberry bush, strawberries, tomatoes, parsley, and carrots growing in our backyard.
It was a slow process for me to become a vegan. When I was pregnant with my daughter Jennifer in 1978 just looking at meat made me feel ill so I stopped eating red meat (beef, pork, lamb). I continued eating chicken, turkey and fish occasionally. When my son Brian became a vegan while he was in college at Humboldt State University I decided to stop eating all animals. He gave me a brochure on the benefits of being a vegan. I always felt guilty about killing animals for my food. Meat = Murder
I suggest reading:
“World Peace Diet” by Will Tuttle, Ph.D
“The China Study” by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II. MD
“Diet for a new America” by John Robbins
These books should be read by anyone interested in a healthy living.
